Lanzarote Holiday Essentials
Lanzarote is the fourth largest and most easterly of the Canary Islands. Locted just seventy miles off the coast of Africa and blessed with a year round clement climate, this little speck of Spain is on the same line of latitude as parts of Florida and Mexico. And has long been established as a hot favourite with British tourists. Who account for well over 50% of the 1.5 million non-Spanish nationals that visited the island during the course of last year.
Lanzarote was subjected to a six year long volcanic eruption in the 1730´s which has done much to shape the islands landscape and culture. At the time this cataclysmic event obviously caused widespread devastation, forcing many islanders to emigrate. Today however Lanzarote is known as The Island of Fire and the volcano park at Timanfaya – the epicentre of these eruptions - is by far and away the biggest tourist attraction on the island.
